Community Highlight: Winter Carnival

Read below to learn more about the Whitefish Winter Carnival!

Not every small town in Montana celebrates winter the way Whitefish does. A collection of community stories and events has led the town to celebrate King Ullr, the Nordic God of Winter. The
town elects individuals to act as royalty and yetis which are seen at numerous events during the week. These royalty members are individuals of the community that are recognized for their commitment to the service of others. Many of these individuals are involved in multiple programs in the Flathead Valley and are well known for their support of Whitefish families.

Every year the King, Queen, Minister and Duchess are newly elected and attend events to play the roles of their respective characters. Most popularly, winter carnival is celebrated with a parade, penguin plunge, skijoring, gala and numerous bar gatherings. Many other community events are put on during the week that cater to family,
friends and students.

The Winter Carnival, while fun and playful also helps contribute to a number of charities in the Flathead Valley. This week and the weeks leading up to Winter Carnival people will support their local businesses and purchase a pin/button to display their support for the community. Grab a costume, a button and a hot chocolate and find the events of the Winter Carnival that you can
participate in.
